Indie Artist Spotlight Dan Bowden of Needs More Snakes
Dan Bowden is a freelance illustrator/designer/screenprinter based in Brighton in the UK. He specialises in poster and shirt designs for bands/clothing companies also working on designs for greetings cards, wedding stationery, websites, canvases, walls, and anything else he can draw on.
I sometimes do work under the banner ‘NeedsMoreSnakes’ – which is a reference to a bands request on one of my first printing jobs (Beatsteaks, if you’re interested), sometimes I just use my real name, but as there’s a few Dan Bowden artists – I’m moving towards NMS as my permanent name currently. I also do prints and t-shirts under the NMS banner and have designed t-shirt lines under this name.
I often screenprint my own posters at Parliament of Feathers studio, and can be found at the occasional gig in Brighton or London selling my prints on bands merch desks. I also sell my work online via my webshop www.needsmoresnakes.bigcartel.com, as well as sometimes at craftfairs like Brighton Craftaganza, and also will be soon via the lovely No Guts No Glory shop in Devon too.
I’ve done designs for a variety of clients/bands such as Cursive, Future of The Left, Turbonegro, Fucked Up, The Peacocks, The Xcerts, Beatsteaks, La Dispute, Touche Amore, Dan Sartain, Capdown, Southsea Fest, The Minutes, Jim Jones Revue, The Pine Hill Haints, Austin Lucas, Hayseed Dixie, Burning Love, Subsource No Guts No Glory Shop, Get A Grip Studio, Brighton Rumble, Punker Bunker Brighton (numerous posters!) Wolves in Wolves Clothing, Awesome Merchandise, Lights Go Out Zine, and have exhibited work in Brighton with another local Illustrator Iain Buchanan who I’ve done a few pieces of collaborative work with in the past year or two.
