Welcome to “Six Questions With…,” a series of interviews with emerging artists, musicians, and bands focusing on the music scene and how they live within it. It started as a quick, fun project, but has quickly gained serious interest, so it has become a permanent fixture here on Indie Minded. Over time, the questions may change, but the sentiment will stay the same. This is a way for independent artists to be discovered by new fans on a global scale.
Within in each post, you will find all of their social media links, and also either a link to their music, or the ability to stream at least one of their tracks or videos, depending on the availability.
We hope you enjoy this series, and if you know anyone that might be interested in being part of it, please have them reach out to us for more information.
Next in the hot seat is New Jersey-based post-hardcore band Vanish. We have not had the privilege of featuring Vanish here on the pages of Indie Minded, so we are thrilled to bring you this short interview. If you’re not familiar with them, sit back and enjoy! This is what is great about this series – the discovery of new music.
For those who may not be familiar, please tell us about your music: the type of music you play, where you are from, and how you got started?
We’re Vanish from Central New Jersey. Our genre is usually classified as post hardcore, but our style is sort of all over the place. We formed this band a year ago after our old band broke up. We met Justin (guitar) and Jack (bass) through mutual friends and it just took off after that.
As an artist, how do you define success?
Success for us just means a long lasting career and a genuine fan base. We plan on being around for a while, and we’d like to travel anywhere that we’re wanted.
What do you find to be your greatest struggle when it comes to the music business?
Sketchy people. There’s too many people that are only out for themselves in the music business. If you can find the right people to work with who genuinely care about what you do it makes everything a whole lot smoother!
If you could only play ONE of your songs for the rest of your career, which one would it be?
I think everyone in the band would agree on our song “Heaven Sent // Hell Bound.” We’re always so excited to play it live because its full of energy and emotion. It’s also our heaviest song so theres a bit more crowd participation.
What do you think is the most realistic goal you can achieve as an artist/band? What do you hope to achieve?
In the coming year we want to open up for national acts in hopes to spread the word. We also hope to gain a solid following and tour wherever we possibly can. We have a lot of plans for 2018, so going into our second year as a band should be very exciting!
Outside of music, what do you like to do that you feel contributes to the creativity that you tap into for your music?
A big influence of mine (Patrick) when it comes to writing our music is horror movies. The sometimes eerie vibe in our music generally comes from the overall aesthetic of horror. Other than that, just life experiences. Mainly the depressing ones, those always seem to stick out the most.
