After taking the year off in 2018, Boston’s music competition staple – the Rock & Roll Rumble is back in 2019! Produced and created by Boston Emissions host, Anngelle Wood, the Rumble will take place in April over two weeks ONCE Somerville, which boasts a capacity for and audience of 300.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble has been a Boston institution since 1979, and its absence was felt this year. Boston bands will be thrilled to once again take part in this event, and only the best of the best will be crowned the winner!

About its absence and upcoming return, Wood says, “I could not be more ready to get back to work. I heard from a lot of people who felt the void this past Spring. There are great things in store.  I’m back, the show is back, and ONCE is back — all reinvigorated and ready to go. I anticipate an incredible year, and I look forward to working with the new staff at ONCE.”

Those familiar with the Rumble will notice that the format is a bit different this year, but I’m giving it a thumbs up. Here are the details:

  • Preliminaries, Week 1: Thursday, April 4, Friday, April 5, Saturday April 6
  • Preliminaries, Week 2: Thursday, April 11, Friday, April 12, Saturday, April 13
  • Semifinals: Friday, April 19, Saturday, April 20
  • Finals: Friday, April 26

Looking to submit your band? You can submit directly online, but keep in mind that band selection is directly related to airplay ON Boston Emissions, but there ARE other rules that apply. Get on over and apply, bands!
