Between U 2 by Trace Repeat

Check out the lyric video from Oakland-based indie soul / funk 8-piece Trace Repeat for their track “Between U 2,” which will appear on their upcoming release, Oaktown Sound, due out September 22nd.

What makes Trace Repeat so special? Besides their great vibe, they’ve got a great story / message, and I want to share it with you all today. It’s important, and it’s a message that needs to be heard. Trace Repeat is working hard to erase Asian American stereotypes, through their music and through their influence.

“So the problem is really this,” explains vocalist Wesley Woo, “Asian Americans are most commonly known as the quiet type. Silent and compliant, the submissive race. We are the quiet kid in the back of the class that minds our own business and doesn’t cause trouble. You know, a pushover, right?

What we’re really setting out to do with Trace Repeat is break down these stereotypes, in an industry that expects us to sit down, shut up, and behave. It’s an unapologetically sexy representation of funk and soul in an industry that expects us to be anything but that. We refuse to be your good Asian kid any longer.”

I’m not saying that this is why you should give these guys a listen…. you should give these guys a listen because they’re GOOD! So, check it out:
